Applications
Secondary Care
The complete range of secondary care datasets is available within CDP. For Acute activity, CDP also provides the ability to group activity (HRG), derive spells and to price the activity. For an Acute Trust, the option is available to align such activity with current budgets and to forecast year end expenditure to gain a better understanding of their true financial position.
Financial
Summary and snapshot financial data models are available and can be populated at the most appropriate level for the Trust. For instance, information by cost centre or department may be available, which can easily be summarised to the corporate level for use in the Balanced Scorecard, but still provides the ability to drill down and analyse financial variance in greater detail.
Human Resources
Summary and snapshot data models for human resource data are available and can be utilised in a similar manner to financial data, depending on the ability to extract this information from the source systems.
Risk Management
Untoward Incidents, Risk Management, Complaints
The CareXML® suite includes Incident Manager, which provides the facility to record and manage any type of clinical or adverse event or complaints, and to relate these back to patient episodes where appropriate. Incident data models have been populated in CDP for detailed or summary analysis; although fully integrated with Incident Manager, other potential sources can include third party incident management systems.
Standard Reports
Standard reports are included for all of the core datasets for secondary care including KH07, QM08, inpatient and outpatient activity monitoring, Payment by Results and so on. For example:KPIs and the Balanced Scorecard
CDP is designed with a pre-defined set of KPIs for healthcare, forming the basis of the Balanced Scorecard for the organisation. These indicators have been updated to include the new Healthcare Commission key targets and indicators (where these have been fully defined).
A set of generic KPIs is unlikely to match the Trust’s own specific requirements exactly, so Stalis offer expert customisation during implementation as well as including the generic and a user-definable set of KPIs within the standard product. The Balanced Scorecard can be made available to managers as a fully configurable EIS, as a dashboard indicator with traffic lighting, or as graphical or tabular reports.
Information Drill-down
By drilling down to lower levels of detail as appropriate, the user can easily review underlying trends, gaining understanding of the true reasons for resource consumption or variance from target.
Targets (or ‘objectives’) are user definable at any level of analysis. Multiple targets can be defined for any measure at each level; thus there might be one target for the national standard, but a different local target for each month to assist with monitoring progress towards the national target. Similarly targets can be defined for any dimension within the analysis e.g. commissioner, consultant, directorate etc.
